Parent Support
Parenting is a journey filled with highs and lows. Before their child is even born (or in some cases, enters their care), many parents find themselves wondering about what life might look like. However, children’s distinct personalities, behaviours, or even experiences or neurotypes often rewrite the plans and this reality can feel challenging and at times, even overwhelming.
Parents/caregivers may experience a range of emotions when receiving a diagnosis of Autism for their child, ranging from sadness, fear, grief and vulnerability to relief, assurance, and certainty.
Research shows that parenting any child involves constant adjustments, but parents of neurodivergent children often must "pivot" (that is, move from the base point) much more often and significantly. For parents and caregivers, this can lead to a cycle of self-doubt about their own capabilities. Pivoting often can lead to an increased amount of "mental load" and thus place parents and caregivers at risk of carer burnout.
We can support you with a neuro-affirming, trauma sensitive approach that trusts in parents’ intuition to guide them and subsequently builds positive, secure attachment-based relationships with their children.

Parenting a child who has experienced trauma
Children who have experienced traumatic events need to feel safe and loved. All parents want to provide this kind of nurturing home for their children. However, when parents do not have an understanding of the effects of trauma, they may misinterpret their child’s behavior and end up feeling frustrated or resentful.
